District Attendance Policy
(click on the link to access the
District attendance policy)
Daily Attendance Procedure:
Parents are responsible for calling the attendance
office, 341-5437, at the start of the day if a child
will be absent. All children are required to bring
notes from their parents stating the reason for
their absence on the day they return to school. If
parents anticipate that their child will be absent
from school for three or more days they should
contact the guidance office, 341-5422, in order to
secure homework assignments. A note is required
when a student needs to leave school due to illness
or to see a doctor. No child will be released
from school unless the person is the parent,
guardian, or is listed as an emergency contact on
the Emergency Information Sheet. All parents,
guardians, or emergency contact persons must show
proper I.D. in order to sign out a student.
Unauthorized absence from school is considered
truancy and will be treated as such. This includes
absence from any class or activity during the school
day for which the student is scheduled. It includes
any after-school special-help session or
disciplinary session that a student has been
directed to attend. Disciplinary action shall be
taken in such cases, beginning with notification of
parents.
Students are expected to arrive at school by 7:40
a.m. every day. Tardiness causes a disruption
to the education process for the student as well as
for the other members of the class. Two or more
incidents of tardiness without a written,
acceptable excuse from a parent may result in
after school detention or other disciplinary
action.
Attendance Policy:
Good attendance and class participation are
essential ingredients for academic success. Any
absence from class is detrimental to the learning
process. Classroom lessons require social
interaction, development of effective communication
skills, critical thinking and subject mastery.
Students who miss more than ten percent of class
time risk retention as per our district promotion/
retention policy.
The following are Excused (Legal) Absences:
Illness of student*, Serious illness, quarantine, or
death in family*, Observance of a
religious holiday*, Court appearance**,
Doctor’s appointment*, School
approved activity**, Family emergency*,
Out-of-school or In-school suspension*.
*Requires written parent notification
** Requires pre-approval of school principal
Students who have been absent from either a class or
from school must present written documentation from
either the parent or a school official that provides
reasons for the absence. Failure to provide such
documentation within 24 hours of the student’s
return to class or school may be deemed by the
school principal as an unexcused (illegal) absence.
Upon returning to school following an absence,
tardiness or early departure, it shall be the
responsibility of the student to arrange make-up
work with his or her teacher. The teacher shall
provide the student sufficient time in which to make
up missed assignments or examinations due to an
excused absence. Students are not entitled
to make up work if they have been absent illegally.
