Foreign Language Department

Middletown High School offers Spanish and French at four levels, including Advanced Placement in Spanish.  Teaching and learning is aligned with the New York State Standards, and New York State Checkpoints A, B and C.

In preparation for the NYS assessments, we address all four language development areas (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking), and provide content reinforcement, history and cultural awareness.  Our curriculum builds on the middle school programs, emphasizing the acquisition of language through a communicative approach.  Our student-centered classrooms incorporate a variety of technologies and involve students through real life simulations, targeted listening, grammar reinforcement, literature and poetry.
