Students
learn ABCs of getting along
First-graders at Chorley Elementary School recently took
part in the ABCs of Getting Along Workshop. The
workshop, led by Barbara Driscoll, of the Dispute
Resolution Center, discussed the topic of anger with
students and examined some healthy ways to control it.
Students also explored appropriate means to handle peers
as part of the workshop, which utilized songs, poems,
skits, and puppets to engage students and encourage
participation.

Donations help Chorley students
Eighty-six children from 31 disadvantaged
families at Chorley Elementary School enjoyed special gifts
during the holiday season thanks to the generous
donations from a host of community supporters.

Students visit residents at St. Theresa's just in time
for the holidays
Students
at Chorley Elementary School visited residents at St.
Theresa's Retirement Home on Friday, November 20, just in
time for the holidays. Students sang songs and passed out
hand-made cards to residents during their visit.

Week inspires
students
More
than 20 local professionals spoke to Chorley
Elementary School students
about their professions during Career
Week, held from October 26-30 at the school.
Students from
kindergarten to first grade learned
about various professions, and according to Assistant
Principal
Ivette
Figueroa
there has been no shortage of student
excitement.
"Our
kids
are excited to meet and hear from the professionals,"
Figueroa said. "An event like this, which educates
students ab out
future opportunities, helps motivate them at a young age to
work hard towards their goals or a future career."
Professionals
visiting the school included police officers, doctors,
a lawyer, EMT workers, a hot air balloonist,
a
martial arts instructor, a horse trainer and
a food
services manager, among others.
Firefighters teach fire safety, prevention
Middletown
firefighters
provided
fire safety and prevention tips to students
at
Chorley Elementary School
during Fire
Prevention Week, held October 5-9.
Students watched a fire safety video and
listened as firefighters emphasized
the importance of having working
smoke detectors in the home. Firefighters also reviewed
items students should stay away from, such as matches
and lighters.
Schools remember 9/11
Middletown
City Schools commemorated the eighth anniversary of 9/11 on
Friday
with
district-wide moments of silence, in memory
of those lost in the attacks, and a
variety of activities centered around Patriot Day.
