Title 1 /Academic
Intervention Services (AIS):
Title 1 /AIS are services intended to assist
students who are at risk of not achieving the State
learning standards in English language arts,
mathematics, social studies and/or science, or who are
at risk of not gaining the knowledge and skills needed
to meet or exceed designated performance levels on State
assessments. Academic Intervention Services shall be
made available to students with disabilities on the same
basis as non-disabled students, provided, however that
such services are consistent with the student’s
Individualized Education Program (IEP). Academic
Intervention Services shall also be made available to
English Language Learners (ELL). For ELL’s who are in
bilingual education programs, services in the standards
areas of mathematics, science, social studies, and
language arts must be provided in English or the native
language, depending on the specific needs of the
students.
Title
1/AIS will be provided at various times. Services may
be offered during the school day, after the school day
(EDI), and during the summer.
Extended Day Institute
(EDI):
The EDI program is an after school program to
assist students in the area of ELA and Math. Students
who are identified as being at risk in meeting the
designated performance levels of the state assessment
are invited in the fall for ELA and in the winter for
Math. The EDI program is available for these identified
students grades 2–8.
Summer Institute:
The Summer Institute program is a summer academic
program that is available to identified students in the
Elementary and Middle School level. On the elementary
level
students are identified by the DRA and NYS assessments as being at risk of not meeting
the NYS performance levels for ELA and math. Students
participate in a four day a week program for six weeks.
Students are provided with intensive supplemental
instruction in Language acquisition, ELA and Math.
On the secondary level students are identified through
their final grades in the five core courses (ELA, Math,
Social Studies, Science, and Literacy). Students
participate four days a week in a six week program,
Students may take anywhere from one to four classes a
day depending on their academic needs. |
