The Middletown City School District recognizes that the education of students with limited English proficiency includes the acquisition of a new language and a new culture, and therefore requires special consideration and attention.

Acknowledging that acquiring academic competence in English takes time, we are committed to providing the necessary support so that students continue to learn content while they are learning English. To accomplish this, Middletown offers students the choice of participating in a transitional bilingual program or ESL program, and the district provides sufficient information to help families make the best program choice for their child.

We strive to enable all students to achieve proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in the English language. We also strive to enable that all students meet New York State standards in all disciplines and content areas.
